From Cancun to Isla Holbox, Caribbean Sea, small quiet island with beautiful beaches, travel around the world

Isla Holbox

We arrived in Cancun to Merida with a stop to visit Chichen Itza. It was late afternoon and we are looking for a place to sleep, not too expensive and especially who can keep our bags for next week. The places listed in dormitories are + - at 130 pesos per person, we find that a bit exaggerated. It falls on a brand new hostel, it still smells of paint. She made her dormitory 75pesos per person. We take a seat. We stay two nights and we let one of our backpacks.

Then bus at 7:30 in the morning for Isla Holbox (or rather Chiquila) 76 pesos per person for 170km. It continues with a ferry of "9 hermanos" 60 pesos one way pp. There is a ferry every two hours is a catamaran with AC and comfortable, otherwise lanchas are the same price if you're six, we prefer the ferry.

Once on the island, we look for a camping or dormitory cheap. Difficult, today is Sunday and the owners of two places where we are absent. The price we show the people there are in any way too high. Sleeping in hammocks in a dormitory at 100 pesos pp and same thing for camping! Should do with the owner and wait, but we do not want to waste too much time, the day is beautiful.

It is a comfortable room for 250 pesos for two in front of the zocalo, the posada Raza. For $ 2 difference, worth more room than a hammock! It looks little and it should be possible to find a better price.

We spent three relaxing days in Isla Holbox. The sun is always what you and the beach almost deserted. The only weak point is that the restaurants are quite expensive. No problem for us, we finished the can of gas and it is cooked for a few meals for the last time before we return. The real scam is for water. The 4 liters are 25 pesos, 10 pesos to 1L, saving must absolutely buy a 20L for 12 pesos. You pay a deposit that the dealer gives us at the back of the container (have receipt)

No much to do on the island, walk, swim and enjoy the moment.

on the island, travel guides and bloggers like to say that there are no cars ... only scooters, bikes and golf cars ... First, in the center of the golf cars are so numerous that it is unpleasant, secondly there are exceptions, police truck, heavy machinery, delivery trucks (Bimbo, Purified Water, Coke ...) and hotels considers that he needs a truck (or rich enough to have one) so that the village is pretty loaded. By cons, yes, we saw no cars;) on small secondary roads, it is very quiet by cons.
