Riviera Maya: Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres beaches and turquoise waters of the Caribbean near Cancun, Mexico, travel around the world

Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen

Wednesday, May 26 Playa del Carmen

the morning, we take the first ferry to 5h30am to 60 pesos pp. A bus is waiting on the other side and we go to Cancun before taking another transportation to Playa del Carmen. We just try and take a room at 200 pesos.

Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen

There are many more people here than at Isla Holbox. There are several hotels of all types included. The water is turquoise and inviting. We will also be on the pedestrian street, but the many touts make it less enjoyable. On this street, we find all the souvenir trinkets that may exist ... The fact that we are in low season we can enjoy the beach not crowded. It was read at Cancun there were 27.000 and 25.000 rooms in Playa del Carmen! It's the world!

Unfortunately, our last days in Mexico will not be very gourmet. It is easier to find a fast food restaurant, a real little Mexican restaurant, cheap Mexican ... It does not matter, we fall back on sushi WalMart!

We leave Playa del Carmen and take the bus to Cancun to 26 pesos pp. The ticket sellers are doing everything that we take ADO to 40 pesos, but we insist.

From Cancun, we must take a small port for collectivo Juarez 4km from the center. A big 5.5 pesos for the trip. Subsequently ferry to Isla Mujeres. It is believed to have taken the most expensive ferry, although it must be another more economical. The trip cost us 70 pesos pp. We arrive on the island after 15 minutes. We are going in the pedestrian street and a man offers us a room with AC and bathroom for 250pesos, why not AC for once!

We stay two days on the island and start walking to his discovery. We go to Playa easily Rancheros (about 5km) walking west side and make the return on the east side. The restaurants seem a poor value for money and therefore we decide to cook for us last time.

The place is not bad, but for us who do not like how the shrimp on the beach, it lacks a few things to do.

We take the ferry back, we'll stay a few days in Cancun before flying home.

From Cancun to Isla Holbox, Caribbean Sea, small quiet island with beautiful beaches, travel around the world

Isla Holbox

Friday, May 21, 2010

We arrived in Cancun to Merida with a stop to visit Chichen Itza. It was late afternoon and we are looking for a place to sleep, not too expensive and especially who can keep our bags for next week. The places listed in dormitories are + - at 130 pesos per person, we find that a bit exaggerated. It falls on a brand new hostel, it still smells of paint. She made her dormitory 75pesos per person. We take a seat. We stay two nights and we let one of our backpacks.

Isla Holbox

Then bus at 7:30 in the morning for Isla Holbox (or rather Chiquila) 76 pesos per person for 170km. It continues with a ferry of "9 hermanos" 60 pesos one way pp. There is a ferry every two hours is a catamaran with AC and comfortable, otherwise lanchas are the same price if you're six, we prefer the ferry.

Isla Holbox

Once on the island, we look for a camping or dormitory cheap. Difficult, today is Sunday and the owners of two places where we are absent. The price we show the people there are in any way too high. Sleeping in hammocks in a dormitory at 100 pesos pp and same thing for camping! Should do with the owner and wait, but we do not want to waste too much time, the day is beautiful.

It is a comfortable room for 250 pesos for two in front of the zocalo, the posada Raza. For $ 2 difference, worth more room than a hammock! It looks little and it should be possible to find a better price.

We spent three relaxing days in Isla Holbox. The sun is always what you and the beach almost deserted. The only weak point is that the restaurants are quite expensive. No problem for us, we finished the can of gas and it is cooked for a few meals for the last time before we return. The real scam is for water. The 4 liters are 25 pesos, 10 pesos to 1L, saving must absolutely buy a 20L for 12 pesos. You pay a deposit that the dealer gives us at the back of the container (have receipt)

video Isla Holbox

No much to do on the island, walk, swim and enjoy the moment.

on the island, travel guides and bloggers like to say that there are no cars ... only scooters, bikes and golf cars ... First, in the center of the golf cars are so numerous that it is unpleasant, secondly there are exceptions, police truck, heavy machinery, delivery trucks (Bimbo, Purified Water, Coke ...) and hotels considers that he needs a truck (or rich enough to have one) so that the village is pretty loaded. By cons, yes, we saw no cars;) on small secondary roads, it is very quiet by cons.

Chichen Itza Mayan site on the road between Merida and Cancun pyramids and ruins, mexico travel around the world

site maya Chichen Itza

Friday, May 21, 2010 Chichen Itza

Departure the morning of Merida, we take the first bus to Chichen Itza (66 pesos pp 120km). We arrive on site at 9:00, and contrary to what we expected, the site is quiet and only the many vendors who are settled there, but they are not too distracting, they must wait for the groups. It is moving away from 116 pesos per person for the site entrance.

Like most blogs, we almost always see the great pyramid and little details, expected at a site a little uncomfortable living only for the many tourists in Cancun. Nope, the site is interesting and full details. We even abandon the bankrupt, after the many other Mayan sites visited.

Video Chichen Itza

Since we do not expected much, we were pleasantly surprised. We were even able to enjoy it almost alone. It is a shame that sites are accessible only from a distance. Unable to climb the pyramids and also impossible to see certain details (like the miles columns), more closely.

We understood why our output, tons of good bus was filled with their input, we rarely saw. A real walkabout to successfully exit the site.

Thereafter, we waited for the bus wisely Oriente (ADO cheaper) and we took our ticket to Cancun 114 pesos (still!) For the remaining 200km.

Lundi17 May 2010 Merida

We arrive in Merida after taking a bus from Campeche and visited Uxmal road. We have hostels listed, but, as everywhere, dormitories are often more expensive than a private room in a hotel not listed. So we start looking for a hotel. We begin our search near the terminal where a lady offers us a room with private bath at 100 pesos for two. It seems a bit hot and we decided to go see if there is better elsewhere. We see an ad offering a double room with private bathroom for 80 pesos.

Video Merida

We go to this address when a man approaches us in English and offers us a room. He said he made a great price because it is a new building, the "Zocalo 2." It starts at 250 then ends at 150 pesos for two, but with all the amenities, pool, full breakfast, private bathroom, hot water, large bedroom, kitchen, TV and WLAN. We'll take a look and it was persuaded. This means that the end of the journey approach because we never took that room when we can have half price elsewhere despite the accommodation offered. So much for spending ...

Merida Merida Merida

There remains a few days in this city. We get a small flood that surprises us. We are with our waterproof disposable wet outside, cross the streets with water to the knees. Notice that people are all barefoot. The water had gone down, but I could not get my camera before.

Merida

Merida is a city not unpleasant colonial and well situated for those who prefer to go back and forth to visit the surrounding sites. The hammocks are many vendors in the city and looking for new arrivals. We talk with "a young university that provides tourist information" and who says we have an incredible opportunity, because we are in the Mayan festival which takes place once in two years. Because that's two people that speak Mayan festival (the other was a waiter in a restaurant, who wanted to sell us a drink), we think. He continued by telling us that cooperative factory hammocks close tonight in 1 hour, and this for one week of the festival ... Here, one begins to have doubts. Out of curiosity, we'll still see the cooperative. Their "joke" preferred here is that there's bad for the Americans (United States) and the right stock at the right price is for others .... Of course, they ask us before our nationality ... For Europeans, it's bad for Americans, followed by Canadians for cheap and good products are for Europeans ... He explains everything so a little manufacturing hammocks before we launch price: 2000 pesos a hammock! $ 170 Canadian!

Merida Merida

We inquired again that it will be closed for a week. He said that perhaps we will come back, because we return to Merida in a while. It is a bit shit, but let us go after we have said it may be closed 10 days and prices elsewhere are much higher.

The next day, it is a pleasure to go and say hello and asked him why he is not closed for this festival so important! It is interesting to hear him stammer reasons equally farfetched, it is because of the heavy rain yesterday, etc. .. He made a big smile and we continue our road.

Next Destination: Cancun through the site Chichen Itza, a site busy.

De Campeche Merida through the Mayan ruins of Uxmal, Mexico, around the world

Site maya Uxmal

Monday, May 17, 2010 Mayan ruins of Uxmal

the morning, we take the first bus from Campeche to Uxmal 85 pesos per person while the path Campeche Merida is 98 pesos! We arrive on site at 9:30. We pay our entry of 116 pesos per person (not given) to be entitled to enjoy the site (the ticket includes the show, sound and light in the evening). We leave our bags on consignment (luckily included with entry) and we're going to explore the site. As the journey ends, we do not look too much expense and will visit different sites, for cons, if the trip continued for several weeks, we would have made choices. The site of Uxmal is a very interesting sites in Mexico.

Nice Slr Bags For Women

San Cristobal and Campeche, colonial cities, Mexico, round the world trip Mayan Ruins

San Cristobal

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

soon awake, we're going to find a bus to San Cristobal. We leave Ocosingo to the 90km that separates us from our next destination. The collectivos asking 40 pesos for the trip, the bus also but there is not now. It is odd that the price is the same, because the bus is more comfortable, but collectivos are faster and frequent. We see that the Mexicans are paying the same price as us. The isotopes, we are stressed out. We finally arrived in San Cristobal after 154 isotopes (and I'm not even exaggerating). The isotopes are bumps on the road made on purpose to force him to slow down (like what we have to service stations). They are much more efficient than ours.

We feel right now it is cooler here. We are more than 2,000 meters above sea level. We are looking for a room for a moment. We'll see a Hostel listed, but the price to 100 pesos a dormitory and a very cold welcome us to turn around quickly. We fall by chance on Hostal Don Luis on the street 5 mayo, a little north of 20 agusto. We have a double room with shared bathroom hot shower, kitchen, living room, wifi and all for 100 pesos for both. Okay, we moved.

Video of San Cristobal and Campeche

The temperature in the evening and at night drops to 15C and blankets are welcome. We decide to enjoy a little of the freshness and stay a few days in the city. Around 14:00 we still entitled to a downpour that continued until late afternoon.

San Cristobal is a colonial city alive. There are plenty of taco vendors near parks and other food vendors of all kinds. The market is alive and prices for foreigners correct. It's odd not having to negotiate! We listen to the Mexicans and they traded little too, if the price does not suit them, they will just see the vendor next door!

San Cristobal
San Cristobal San Cristobal San Cristobal

We take this place before returning to heat. We are seeking a 2nd class bus to Campeche, but there seems to be making the ADO connection. Too bad, this is the first class. There is little time in Mexico and as this is the last leg of our journey, it will be a little less with our budget.

San Cristobal San Cristobal San Cristobal

Bus San Cristobal Campeche costing 372 pesos for 12 hours by road and nearly 500km. The bus is Comfortable, from Peru, we had not taken a night bus!

San Cristobal

Campeche was only a very short stop, we arrived in the morning, we spent one night then the next morning starting with a stop in Merida Uxmal. The city of Campeche has charmed little, narrow streets are pretty and colorful but not enough to detain us longer.
